Know Your Numbers! Week is the UK’s biggest blood pressure testing and awareness event. For ‘Know Your Numbers! Week’ 2021 (6-12 September), Blood Pressure UK is highlighting home blood pressure monitors as an effective and inexpensive way of measuring blood pressure.
Around a third of people in the UK have high blood pressure but, because having high blood pressure doesn’t have noticeable symptoms, most people find that they aren’t aware their blood pressure is high. The only way to find out is with a blood pressure check.
High blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and other illnesses. Monitoring from home offers a way to have more confidence and control over your health and can help you to know when to seek out medical support to get your blood pressure under control.

Blood pressure monitors for use at home are available at most local pharmacies and you can ask the staff there to confirm if the monitor is clinically validated to give yourself confidence in the results. You can also check this list of clinically validated blood pressure monitors from the British and Irish Hypertension Society.
