Erith Health Centre major refurbishments to begin

Posted on

Major internal refurbishments are due to begin at Erith Health Centre, Pier Road, Erith in August 2021.

The NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group are working with NHS Property Services and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust to deliver this renovation.

The refurbishment is being undertaken to support the transformation of the centre with new and improved sustainable facilities into a Health and Wellbeing centre that supports the needs of Erith’s growing population.

Situated in the north of Bexley, Erith Health Centre is home to a variety of vital services for local people, including general practices Bexley Medical Group and the Riverside Surgery, and community services such as audiology, specialist children services and midwifery.

Refurbishments to the centre will include additional clinical rooms for general practice and upgrading rooms used for community services, as well as the renovation and redecoration of some common areas and staff facilities. Musculoskeletal services provided by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust will also be relocated from Erith Hospital to a new fit-for-purpose suite at the centre.

The refurbishment of Erith Health Centre comes as part of the NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group’s wider plan to improve the quality of general practice and community services for people in Bexley. It will provide people with more joined-up care services in a community setting rather than having to go to hospital, ultimately reducing the complexity of the patient journey.

The renovations will begin in early August 2021 and are scheduled to finish at the end of 2021.

This work has been carefully planned so that all patient services will continue with minimal disruption. Onsite service providers are working to ensure patients are kept informed during the duration of the refurbishment. Patients who are receiving Musculoskeletal services during this time will be contacted directly by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

Stuart Rowbotham, Bexley’s Place-based Director for the NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group said:

“We are very excited about beginning these developments at Erith Health Centre. It will be a fantastic opportunity to make sustainable and modern health and wellbeing facilities for our residents.”

Jake Roe, Regional Partnership Director for the London Region at NHS Property Services said:

“We are delighted to be working with South East London CCG to broaden access to a range of health and wellbeing services in Erith.  We hope that the proposed improvements will provide an enhanced environment for patients and clinicians alike and enable staff to continue to deliver excellent care.”
