A MAJOR refurbishment of the Erith Health and Wellbeing Centre means Bexley residents now have access to improved health services. The refurbishment was carried out by NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), NHS Property Services and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust this summer.
Erith Health and Wellbeing Centre, located at 50 Pier Road in Erith, is shared by GP surgeries Bexley Medical Group and Riverside Surgery. Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust and others provide a range of community services from the ground and first floor. South London and Maudsley also provide mental health and substance misuse services from the ground floor.
Work has included two new consulting rooms for general practice, upgrades to clinic spaces used for community services, and general renovation of common areas and staff facilities. New signage has been designed to help visitors to the centre find the location of their appointment more easily. The project also provides the opportunity for voluntary or community groups to provide services to promote the wellbeing of the local population.
Erith Health and Wellbeing Centre will offer an additional site for Bexley Musculoskeletal Service (MSK), with 12 consulting rooms and a purpose-built gym increasing the provision of MSK services in the north of the borough. The multidisciplinary MSK service will be providing Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Hand Therapy on site, as well as group exercise classes for rehabilitation and a Psychology-lead Pain Management Programme for those living with complex and persistent pain.
The refurbishments and additional clinics have been undertaken to meet the needs of Erith’s growing population and help to reduce inequalities of health. North Bexley experiences more acute health conditions and challenges than the rest of the Borough. Erith is one of the fastest growing areas of the London Borough of Bexley and is projected to experience the greatest increase in population by 2030 within the Borough. The centre provides access to the services most needed by local residents in a community setting rather than having to go to hospital, ultimately reducing the complexity of the patient journey.
Stuart Rowbotham, Bexley’s Director for the NHS South East London CCG said:
“It’s fantastic that we were able to make the case for these much-needed improvements to Erith Health and Wellbeing Centre and I’m grateful to colleagues from our Local Care Partnership, representing a number of organisations who have come together to make this happen. Erith Health and Wellbeing Centre is now even more of an asset to Erith and the wider catchment area.”
Jake Roe, Regional Partnership Director for the London Region at NHS Property Services said:
“We are delighted to see patients being welcomed to the newly upgraded Erith Health and Wellbeing Centre. We have worked closely with our partners, NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group and NHSE&I, to design and deliver improved space to meet the local healthcare needs, increase access to services and provide the Bexley residents with a more modern and sustainable facility.”
